U-pick zucchini (zucchini)
COLLECTION PERIOD
Generally, you can start picking the zucchini early September.
There is no minimum amount for pick up.
You can pick them yourself, or buy them already picked individually at the kiosk at the entrance.
If you want large quantities, already picked, please let us know in advance.
CONTAINERS
We provide 6 liter (11 quart) containers
We lend containers of 18 liters (4 gallons) and 36 liters (8 gallons) for larger quantities. So plan large bags to transfer your peppers. You can also buy our 36 liter container for $5.
HOW TO COLLECT THEM
Using a knife or secateurs, cut about 5 centimeters below the peduncle. It can also be picked only by turning it slowly until it detaches from its stem.
HOW TO KNOW IF THEY ARE RIPE
The main indicator of whether a zucchini has reached maturity is by looking at the stalk of the vegetable. If it is hard, it can be harvested. If it's soft and you can cut it with your fingernails, it's not ripe.
To find out about our opening hours, our payment methods and the services offered at the farm, consult our PICK-UP page.
HOW TO STORE THEM
In the fridge, the zucchini will keep for 4 or 5 days. In brown paper, away from light, it will keep a little longer.
IN THE FREEZER
Here is what the archzine.fr site recommends:
It is not ideal to freeze raw cabbage. However, you Start by filling a pot with water, then bring to a boil.
In a bowl, mix ice cubes with water to make a kind of ice bath.
Then, plunge the courgettes into boiling water and leave them in for about a minute.
Remove the vegetables from the boiling water and soak them in the ice bath. This step stops the cooking process.
Finally, dry the courgettes and freeze them.
